She's Reich

Who's That Girl...playing Steve Reich?

Fortunately, I ran into Sarah Ruth at Hailey's Monday night. She mentioned there would be a clarinet player doing a Steve Reich piece down the street at Dan's Silver Leaf in Denton, TX. In between sets I was able to catch the 11 minute one woman performance of Reich's "New York Counter Point." She prerecorded herself playing the additional parts in the minimalist piece. It was thoroughly lovely and refreshing. I love the fact that in Denton, TX you can catch something like this down the street from a Punk Bunny show.

A Little D for Me

Christian! Teenage Record Hop???

Pretty Ladies and Guitars

Punk Bunny's Bi-Sexual Daisy Chain

Punk Bunny!

Punk Bunny!! :(I didn't catch the tit shot :(

Punk Bunny Rawks!!!

Dancing Girl "Farah"

This show at Hailey's in Denton, TX was lightly attended unfortunately. I enjoyed the addition of Ashley Cromeens of Record Hop to the Christian! Teenage Runaway current line up. Rumor has it that may happen again;) Another interesting twist on CTR's performance was an anonymous and scantily clad blonde siren who had "ILOVEFARAH!" painted on her back. She sang one song about her "Pussy" and gave a performance that reminded me of something Madonna would have done in '90's had she been influenced by Peaches "Impeach my Bush". She did have some rockin' pipes. The performance by Farah was fairly...Farah. As for LA's Punk Bunny, let's just say I was more than entertained. It was like Devo in a hardcore 3-way with 20 Minute Workout and the B-52s. It is something you have to see to really appreciate.

...And Now for Something Completely Different

If you want to see some amazing live music tonight, Silk Stocking is headlining at The Cavern on Lower Greenville. You wont regret it provided you have good taste in music.

Taken directly from their Myspace page I have some notable testimonials About Silk Stocking.

"On Friday, the Liquid Lounge bar didn't make a killing in drink sales, but the club certainly served up a fine blend onstage. Though Silk Stocking's opening set was shortened by sound issues, Liz McGowan howled and growled an extraordinary path while both courting and bitch-slapping Shawn Mauck's guitar lines with her piano. The audience was fixated on the group's understated onstage chemistry, and those unfamiliar with the duo were surprised by the intense--and at times masculine--vocals coming from the angel-faced McGowan. SS's set closed with a triple threat of MySpace darling "45 and Vodka," the Waits-Cave-Harvey love child "Waiving Long Distance" and a rousing, burly "Straight and Narrow" that's still notched happily in my brain." -Merritt Martin-Dallas Observer ----------------------- ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Intensity is a good thing; it can't be learned or faked. Here, Silk Stocking clearly has the goods"-jennifer kelly-splendid -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Liz Macgowan is like Tom Waits with a sex change,as evidenced in the brutal "45 and Vodka"--Margaret Moser-Austin Chronicle ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Tom Waits and PJ Harvey fans would be insane to miss SS's opening set" Sam Machkovech-Dallas Observer ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "The cover art for this CD clarifies what you will find inside, drunken singing with slurred shouting. What it does not reveal is the masterful use of blues, mixed with a shot of punk and then poured over psychotic ice. The first release from the Dallas two-piece of piano player/vocalist Liz McGowan and guitarist Shawn Mauck is a 14-song journey through tales of loneliness, despair, and depression. The first song, "Every Man" is a sad tale of how everyone has it better than this pessimistic singer and the next song, "Walk with me" follows along the same lines. "45 and vodka," has received some radio airplay with its catchy chorus and the most upbeat tempo on the album and "waving long distance," personifies the bands sound that can only be described as Tom Waits bastard daughter with a European folk band backing her. The song, "Tree Planted By the Water" is the religious/protest? song on the L.P. with somewhat more coherent lyrics like, "jesus is my captain, We shall not be moved-Just like the tree planted down by the water." The only complaint is the lack of liner notes. You will want to sing along as you listen but will have to mumble and slur mysterious words until the more recognizable bits of each song come around. -Timmy Newell-Venues Magazine-April 2005 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Feeling nostalgic?
Berlin "Sex (I'm a)"

While doing a search for Berlin "Sex (I'm a)" I found this late 90's footage from VH1 Bands Reunited. Vocalist Terri Nunn is a Goddess. She is hotter than hell these days and still knows how to work it. I can appreciate the changes made in the lyrics to accommodate a mature dominant feminine attitude about SEXXX. Here she ends the song straddling John Crawfords face. Yummy! Yummy! Yum! Enjoy!

If you wanna see the old video for SEX (I'm a) Clique ME.

Also tonight, just down the street from Fallout Lounge you can catchWanz Dover and Robert Taylor of Stereo on Strike spinning at Julie Campbell's Birthday Bash on the back patio at Minc. Expect some B-Pitch, Kitsune, Ed Banger, Kompact, Areal, Blog House, Dubstep, Electro and some banging remixes on the patio.

DJ/Producer DJ EQUE is as mainstream as they come. She is a obviously very attractive, well connected and doing very well for herself in the biz. It is rumored that Erykah Badu may make a personal appearance at this event. Let's just say this is a girls party and there will be plenty of fashionable Dallas "Fly Girls" getting their drunk on or shakin' a tailfeather or two.

XLR8R - Podcast: Daly City Records

Jandek In Ft. Worth

Mwanza was right on the money about Jandek. I had the amazing fortune of seeing Tom Waits last year with my good friend Albert. I thought that was a once in a lifetime experience. However, words cannot describe the voice of Jandek and his vision. As my dear friend Leroy Roper would say to me many times in my life, "The same only different." The local musicians on stage with Jandek were like a dream. It was unfortunate that I had to miss the Dead Echoes show at House of Tinnitus which would have made for an interesting transition through my weekend had I seen those shows back to back.

Breakfast With Tiffany...

After all of the Friday night festivities we were HUNGRY!!! Of course the best late night food, service and ambiance can only be found at Exposition Park Cafe where we ran into current Dallas media sweethearts "She Dick." They just happens to be playing tonight at this Party Monster Club Kid Event. Yes, this scene is back like or not!!! Did we ever figure out what Club Kids do? Not that it really matters. I need a steady diet of glitter, glam and fluff to keep the balance.

After we check out Jandek tonight in Ft. Worth I am so there!!!

Better Late Than Never...

The Party was "ON!" Then we slipped out and caught DJ Panda Flower (Gabriel of The Lollipopshoppe) and the ladies from the Metro filling in for DJ Mudi of The Fever @ The Fallout Lounge. Some great old school '80's brit pop, post punk and such. Gabriel even played "A Town Called Malice" by The Jam for ME.
